“Happy Saturdays” for military children and wives

The NGO “Free and Faithful” supports the families of servicemen and fallen heroes in Odesa by organizing regular charity events called “Happy Saturdays.”

These gatherings have become a true celebration for children and their mothers, providing not only entertainment but also support. Every Saturday, animators and face painting specialists entertain the children with fun contests and games. While the kids enjoy these activities, their mothers have the opportunity to participate in a brunch with a psychologist. This specialist, who is herself a widow of a serviceman, understands the challenges faced by military wives and offers valuable professional advice. She helps women cope with the pain and despair caused by the loss of loved ones.

International Veterans Conference

We initiated a large-scale international conference on developing effective veteran policies in Ukraine, which was held in Kyiv (offline) and Washington (online). We brought together over 50 speakers from 7 countries, including esteemed representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Ukrainian Ministry of Veterans Affairs, the General Staff, the Presidential Office, and the Office of the Prosecutor General. Foreign experts included Bonnie Carroll, President of TAPS; Andre Hollis, Director of Tiger International Advisors; Nathan White-Wilson, Director of Gallant Knights Private Security Services, and others.

The result will be a plan of action for adapting U.S. veteran policies to Ukrainian realities was delivered to representatives of the U.S. Congress. The conference is planned to be a regular event aimed at advocating and promoting effective veteran policies in Ukraine.

“Today, we essentially have a ‘public reform plan’ developed with input from and support by our American partners. The plan paves the way for strengthening cooperation between the U.S. and Ukraine in supporting veterans. Now, swift and coordinated actions are needed to turn these recommendations into concrete programs and services. Specifically, during the reform of Ukrainian veteran policy, it is proposed to focus on issues such as medical rehabilitation, housing provision, education and employment, creating conditions for veteran entrepreneurship, protecting female veterans, and developing the regulatory frame.

Employment of veterans

The NGO “Vilni ta Virni” participated in the realisation of the online platform “Kurs,” where veterans of the Russo-Ukrainian war can choose a specialty, undergo training, and find employment.

The “Kurs” service allows demobilized military personnel to complete online training, take a test, receive an invitation for an interview, and secure employment. The project was developed by the UAV Operator Training Center “KrUK” with support from the International Renaissance Foundation and in collaboration with NGO “Vilni ta Virni.”

Currently, the platform offers training in fields such as construction, administration, sales, pharmacology, communication, and the agricultural sector. Partner employers include Ukrzaliznytsia, Kernel, Arterium, and the Kovalska Industrial-Construction Group.

The business sector is offering veterans not only purely civilian specialties. For instance, Ukrzaliznytsia is ready to train UAV operators, recognizing that the specifics of wartime demand enhanced security measures, and former military personnel could become valuable allies in combating saboteurs.

A shot of Faith

The NGO “Free and Faithful” supports the social project for military personnel, “A Shot of Faith.” This initiative, backed by the leadership of the Odesa Territorial Recruitment Center and the “Stvol” store network, is focused on the psychological and social rehabilitation of our defenders.

During the meetings, soldiers connect, share experiences, and improve their shooting skills. The atmosphere of camaraderie and brotherhood is so strong that it can’t be fully captured in photos. “Shot of Faith” is, above all, a project aimed at providing assistance and support to our defenders.

We admire volunteers Oleh Makarov and Alina Marshal, who initiated this important endeavor. We are truly proud to have such partners and friends.
